The SAP Global Intellectual Property (IP) Group is a world-wide organization with offices in the United States, Canada, Germany, Bulgaria, Israel, India, and China. Group is responsible for implementation of IP strategies to manage and grow the IP portfolio of SAP, to manage IP risks in third party and partner relationships, to provide advice on IP issues in mergers and acquisitions efforts and to manage all litigation related to IP. We are now looking for a PATENT ENGINEER to join our team in Bulgaria.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
IP COUNSELING:
• Providing training and counseling to the SAP software developer community to improve their awareness of IP issues within SAP
• Working with software developers to identify potentially patentable inventions in the technology they have developed
• Performing searches of prior art to provide opinions on the patentability of the technology
• Facilitating write up and submission of Invention Disclosures for consideration to be filed as patent applications
PATENT APPLICATION DRAFTING AND PROSECUTION:
• Drafting patent applications for filing in the United States Patent and Trademark Office (PTO)
• Preparing written responses to Patent Office Actions and conducting other communications with the Patent Office to get the application to issue as patent applications
• Successful candidates will be supervised and trained in patent laws and procedures by an experienced US patent attorney
REQUIREMENTS:
• Candidates must have a degree in engineering (preferably computer science, computer engineering, or electronics,) OR the equivalent experience in software development.
• A degree in law or a paralegal certification is a plus but not required
• Candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
• Good problem solving and interpersonal skills
• Previous experience or knowledge in IP in general, and patents in particular, including any experience in patent prosecution in any jurisdiction is a plus but not required.
• Previous experience and familiarity with databases, such as Delphion, Micropatent, USPTO or European Patent Office databases is a plus
